All about Sun City, Arizona

The nation's first retirement community!

Sun City, Arizona was the vision of developer Del Webb in 1960.   He wanted to create a community where retired people could enjoy an active lifestyle close to home.  His vision was to create golf courses and recreation centers along with the homes.   It was a gamble because no one had created a community like this.  But it paid off.   More than 100,000 people came to see the homes in the first weekend.   In the first year 2,000 homes were sold.   People loved the idea of spending their retirement years having fun with their neighbors.

Today this community northwest of Phoenix has almost 39 thousand residents.   60 years later, it’s still going strong, with homes, shopping and recreation facilities all in the same area.  There are 7 recreation centers in Sun City where residents can enjoy a swim, work out in the fitness center… or take part in many of the activities and clubs available.  From tennis to lawn bowling, shuffleboard, to crafts, dances and car clubs, there’s something for every interest here in Sun City!

Not only that but people here enjoy a low cost of living.   Homes in Sun City are less expensive than in surrounding areas.   Property taxes are lower for home owners…. and because Sun City isn’t actually a city… there’s no city sales tax.  All the more reason to love this community.
